2011
EXCURSIONS: We have no plans to run the 315 this year. The 315 will remain in or near the Silverton Northern engine house, located at Cement and 9th Streets in Silverton.
RAILFEST: We will hold work sessions on the 315 during Monday–Saturday, August 15–20, beginning before Railfest starts on August 18. We will display the 315 interpretive signs and have an information and merchandise booth at the SN engine house. Join us at the SN engine house as observers or workers.
- The first two days will focus on work underneath the engine while it is over the pit inside the engine house: e.g., remove binders and replace oil cellar pads, inspect axle journals, install binders, adjust wedges in the pedestals, and replace a suspension connecting pin. Meanwhile, above the pit, replace two air valves with genuine Westinghouse valves. Lap internal valve in G-6 brake valve, install G-6, charge system with compressed air, and check operation.
- After pit work is complete, move 315 outside. Remove rear air compressor, steam dome, and throttle valve assembly. Operate front air compressor to lubricate internals. Replace filter media on top of journal boxes. Clean flues. Install appliances removed last year. Remove old coal from tender. Clean locomotive and paint trim.
- We intend to install the cab curtain hardware and have the curtains installed for display.
- Stage an evening and night shoot in front of the Silverton Northern engine house for the 315 and the Casey Jones railcar. It will begin about 8pm Friday, August 19.
