Narrow Gauge Convention Excursion - September 13-14, 2009
A unique, authentic, historical experience: 1895 consolidation D&RGW 315.
The oldest D&RGW locomotive operating on the only two remaining sections of original D&RGW narrow gauge railway. D&RGW 315 pulling consists with authentic train cars only. A second, steam powered chase train will run ahead of the freight train with the passengers.
Photographers delight! Many fabulous stops and run-by's each day.
Your chance of a lifetime! The only scheduled 315 excursion in 2009. No 315 C&TS excursion in 2010, and maybe not for some time after that.
Sunday - September 13
From Antonito to Chama. D&RGW 315 will pull a 'unit' freight train of all gondolas (ten or more) and a caboose. Board chase train or caboose behind 315. Lunch at Osier. Arrive at Chama. Happy hour with drinks and snacks upon arrival in Chama. Night photo shoot of D&RGW 315 in Chama yard.
Monday - September 14
From Chama to Antonito. D&RGW 315 will pull a smaller, different mixed freight train up the steep 4% grade to Cumbres and add more freight cars for the trip to Antonito. Board chase train in Chama, lunch at Osier, arrive back at Antonito.
Prices and Ticketing
$795
$75 extra for caboose each day. Caboose riders will have limited run-by opportunities.
Price includes:
Lunches at Osier both days. Hotel in Chama Sunday night. Happy hour drinks and snacks (wine, soft drinks, cheese and crackers). Photo shoot in Chama yard Sunday night. D&RGW 315 coffee mug (11 or 14 oz).
Prices are based on double occupancy for the Sunday night hotel room. For single room occupancy, add $50.
ONE-DAY trips are available on a limited basis. We will sell one-way tickets as long as there is a close balance between east-bound and west-bound tickets. No hotel accommodations are included in this option. Passengers using the one-day option must arrange for their own transportation back to the originating station.

Update:
This excursion will go ahead as planned.
The C&TS assumes no liability besides the actual price of the excursion ticket in the event the 315 is not operable during this event. The 315 was restored to operation in August 2007 and has been proven to be reliable. It has never missed any of its scheduled events since then. However, the 315 is a unique machine and the society cannot guarantee its operation or performance at any given time. There is not substitute locomotive of the same class available. Thus, C&TS or the Society may have to discontinue a run or change the schedule as necessary.
