Emma Sweeny was the star of the 1950 movie A Ticket to Tomahawk. RGS 20 was dressed in props and paint as the live steam version, and it had a full size model as an accurate replica for shots off the track.
The Society acquired the model from Amador County, California, in August 2011 and moved it to Durango in November. The Society is restoring it to its appearance in the movie and will produce interpretive signs about the history of Emma Sweeny and about Durango as the “Hollywood of the Rockies” in the 1950s.
The model had deteriorated and lost many parts over the years. With the help of volunteers and generous donations we’ve been able to reconstruct missing parts and restore the model to its original condition. Emma Sweeny will be completed in the Summer of 2016.
