The 315 Returns to the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad Rails

September and October 2026

Following its appearance at Colorado Crossings, the 315 will embark on a journey to Chama for maintenance at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad shops. It will return to the tracks carrying passengers through the stunning landscapes of the American Southwest in September and October.

This fall, the D&RGW 315 returns to steam, hauling excursions through some of the most breathtaking narrow gauge country in the American Southwest. Two special runs are planned: the first in support of the Durango Railroad Historical Society, followed a few days later by a run supporting the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.

We’re in the final stages of planning, with both excursions targeted for late September. Exact dates and ticket information will be announced soon — check back here or follow us on Facebook to be among the first to know.

Cumbres and Toltec Pete Lerro Photo Excursions Oct 27 and 28 2026

The 315 will also headline a special photo charter with Pete Lerro Photography on October 27th and 28th — a rare opportunity for railroad photographers to capture this historic locomotive in action on the spectacular Cumbres & Toltec line.
